Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott is urging voters to skip the mail and deliver their mail-in ballots in person, citing complaints about slow delivery across the county. The advice came as voters were still returning ballots on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Scott said his office has received multiple complaints about ballots taking too long to arrive, both when they are sent out and when they come back. In some cases, he said, ballots never showed up. He cited his own family’s experience: his son in Orlando waited 12 days for a ballot. An assistant state attorney also reported waiting weeks.
The U.S. Postal Service said it is looking into the problem. Some voters are already taking matters into their own hands. At the Broward County Elections Office in Fort Lauderdale, one voter dropped off her ballot by hand because she said she did not trust the mail.
Miami-Dade County election officials reported no mail delivery problems. About 120,000 of the 250,000 ballots mailed there have already been returned.
Scott recommends that Broward voters take their completed ballots to designated drop-off locations in the county rather than rely on the postal system. “Take it in person, because there is a chance it won’t reach us,” he said.
