Swimming is prohibited at four Boca Raton beaches until further notice after a recent water sample showed elevated bacterial levels, the City of Boca Raton said. The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County posted the health advisory.

The affected beaches are Spanish River Beach and Red Reef Park Beach, South Beach, and South Inlet Beach Park. The city said the parks and beaches will stay open, but visitors should stay out of the water.

Additional water samples will be collected. The city said it hopes full use of the beaches can resume within 24 to 48 hours, pending those results.

Residents can check the city’s website for updates or the Florida Healthy Beaches program for county-wide water quality information.
