Monarch High School football played two of Florida’s strongest programs in consecutive games this week, falling 71-20 to St. Thomas Aquinas High School and 44-0 to West Boca Raton Community High School. The games were part of the new Open Division, which features the state’s top eight teams.

Against St. Thomas Aquinas, the Knights scored three touchdowns. Chris Cortinas caught two of them from quarterback Jeremiah Milcent, who also threw a scoring pass to Rosley Caze Jr. Cortinas recently switched his college commitment from Charlotte to Wofford University.

West Boca Raton, which has won the last two state championships, shut out Monarch on Thursday night. It was the first time the Knights had been blanked since 2019. Darren Juedy recorded an interception in the loss.

The defeats leave Monarch at 4-5 for the season. The Knights finish the regular season at home against Charles W. Flanagan High School on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. Flanagan is 1-8 and its only win came against Boyd H. Anderson High School.
