Students from 15 Miami-Dade high schools and several local law enforcement agencies gathered at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Tuesday for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Police and Youth Conference. The Miami Dolphins hosted the event.
The goal is to improve relationships between young people and police in the community. Participants took part in role-playing exercises that acted out real-life encounters between officers and residents.
The 5000 Role Models organization has run its police and youth program for more than 30 years. According to the group, the program has helped ease tensions and build more cooperation between officers and young people.
