A 14-year-old boy who went into cardiac arrest after being struck by lightning while playing soccer at a park is back on the field, and he recently returned to thank the people who helped save him.

Kevin Sosa reunited Wednesday at Delray Medical Center with the first responders, doctors and nurses who treated him after the August strike. The crews were honored for their role in his survival.

Peter Antevi of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said the work done by the crews is not common. He said the department had put a lot of effort into training the people who responded that day.

Kevin spent about a month in the hospital, followed by rehabilitation. Doctors say his recovery is continuing.

Doctors credited CPR and fast emergency care with making a critical difference. His family and care team said his story shows how quick action can matter in an emergency.
