A Tamarac man was arrested on November 3 after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said a dispute over chocolate candy turned violent, according to an arrest report.

Brian Joseph Yusavage, 33, confronted a victim after finding that his chocolate had been eaten, the report said. Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a home near the 2500 block of Northwest 54th Street.

The victim told deputies that Yusavage began arguing with him while he lay in bed. When the victim stood up, deputies said, Yusavage shoved him against a wall, and he fell to the floor. During the struggle that followed, Yusavage allegedly punched him in the face before leaving the room.

Yusavage then returned to retrieve a phone charger he had left behind. The victim pulled out a pocketknife, saying he feared another attack. Deputies said Yusavage responded by drawing a handgun from his waistband and pointing it at the victim as he backed out of the bedroom. He closed the door, left the house and waited for officers.

The investigating deputy concluded both men drew weapons out of fear, so neither faces weapons charges. Yusavage was booked on a domestic battery charge tied to the shoving and punching and was taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
