Boca Raton is adding school zone speed cameras at three more locations starting Nov. 9, the city said. The new zones serve Calusa Elementary School, Blue Lake Elementary School, and Omni Middle School and Spanish River High School, bringing the city’s total to six.
The city runs the School Zone Safety Program with RedSpeed. Cameras only record violations while the school zone’s flashing lights are on. Enforcement windows vary by school. At Calusa Elementary, cameras run from 7:05 to 8:05 a.m. and 2 to 2:35 p.m. At Blue Lake Elementary, which sits at Military Trail and Potomac Road, the morning window is 7:20 to 8:05 a.m., with the same afternoon hours. The Omni and Spanish River zone at Jog Road and Yamato Road runs from 7 to 9:35 a.m. and 2:45 to 4:35 p.m.
Each new camera zone starts with a 30-day warning period. After that, drivers going at least 11 mph over the posted limit while lights are flashing can receive a $100 civil penalty.
According to the city, tickets from the program do not add points to a driver’s license or affect auto insurance rates. Boca Raton already enforces the program at Addison Mizner School, Boca Raton Community High School and J.C. Mitchell Elementary School.
