One person was killed and two others were injured when a helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay off Key Biscayne on Wednesday morning, according to the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Robinson R44 went down shortly after 11 a.m. Sheriff’s officials said the three adult male occupants were taking photos of boats near Bill Baggs State Park when the aircraft went into the water.

At an afternoon news conference, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said Miami-Dade marine units found a Good Samaritan trying to help one of the victims and bring him to shore. The sheriff’s office has not released the names of the victims.

The crash happened close to a popular boating and park area on the Key Biscayne shoreline. Residents and visitors heading to Bill Baggs should expect a heavy emergency response and possible access changes while investigators work the scene.
