The City of Plantation said it is responding to widespread flooding in the Plantation Acres community after roughly 5 inches of rain fell overnight. The downpour came in about six hours and overwhelmed the neighborhood’s drainage system.
All six pump stations run by the Plantation Acres Improvement District are operating. High water in the C-42 Canal, however, is limiting how fast stormwater can drain out, so floodwaters are receding more slowly than normal.
To speed things up, the city is bringing in extra portable pumps. It is also working with the South Florida Water Management District to request emergency approval for temporary pumping into the North New River Canal and the C-42 Canal. Crews are monitoring canal levels, pump operations and flooding across the community, and the city is looking for other ways to improve drainage.
Residents are asked to stay out of flooded roads, be careful around standing water and report hazardous conditions to the city. The city said more updates will follow as conditions change.
