Miramar residents have until 4 p.m. Saturday to safely get rid of unused, unwanted or expired medications at the Miramar Police Department, 11765 City Hall Promenade. The city posted the notice on Instagram as the collection was already underway.

Commissioner Yvette Colbourne is on site to greet residents and take in medications. The city is running the event with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Miramar Police Department and Miramar Fire-Rescue.

The national take back day gives residents a way to keep old prescriptions out of household trash and medicine cabinets, where they can be misused. Anyone with pills or other medications they no longer need can use the drop-off without an appointment, according to the city’s post.
