Four coastal alerts are in effect at once for the Palm Beach County coast, and the National Weather Service says breaking waves could reach 10 feet in the surf zone.
A High Surf Advisory runs until 8 p.m. Monday, with breakers of 5 to 10 feet. A Coastal Flood Advisory for moderate flooding stays in place until 2 a.m. Sunday. A High Rip Current Risk continues through Monday evening. A Coastal Flood Watch starts late Saturday night and runs through Monday evening, meaning significant coastal flooding is possible.
Forecasters warn that numerous roads may close and that low-lying homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure could be flooded. Shoreline and localized beach erosion are also possible.
Drivers should allow extra time and avoid barricades and water of unknown depth. Owners of flood-prone property should take steps to protect it now. Inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water entirely, and other beachgoers should swim near a lifeguard.
If caught in a rip current, the weather service advises staying calm and floating rather than fighting the pull, swimming parallel to the shore, and calling or waving for help if escape is not possible.
