Riquelme Fillipi scored his first Major League Soccer goal in the 90th minute, rescuing a 2-2 tie for Inter Miami against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night. Lionel Messi did not score.
Luis Suárez gave Inter Miami a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. Kenji Mboma Dem answered for Cincinnati in the 80th minute, and Samuel Gidi, who was also scoring his first MLS goal, put the visitors ahead six minutes later on a counterattack. Fillipi then connected from the left side of the box to level it again.
In stoppage time, Evander had a strong chance to win it for Cincinnati from near the penalty spot. Inter Miami defender Ian Fray deflected the shot, and the ensuing corner went nowhere.
The result dropped the reigning MLS Cup champions to third in the Eastern Conference. New England beat Red Bull New York 3-2 the same night and now leads Miami by two points, 58 to 56, with two matches left.
Miami visits New England in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Sunday, a game that could decide the No. 2 seed in the East and possibly in the MLS Cup playoffs. Miami closes the regular season Nov. 7 at home against Charlotte. Cincinnati still needs points to clinch a playoff spot.
