A federal jury has convicted a West Palm Beach man of attempting to sex traffic a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.

Prosecutors said Luis David Garrido-Garcia, 25, negotiated a price for commercial sex with someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl. He was repeatedly told the girl’s age but kept arranging the meeting, investigators said.

Investigators said Garrido-Garcia drove more than an hour to meet the girl. He was taken into custody instead. Court records and trial evidence showed he later admitted he intended to engage in sexual activity with the girl in exchange for money.

U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones said in a statement that Garrido-Garcia went ahead with the plan despite being told the girl was 15. Federal prosecutors said he faces up to life in prison.
