Newly released dash camera video shows the moments before a Coral Springs police SUV struck and killed a 60-year-old e-bike rider on Riverside Drive. The crash happened shortly after 9:40 p.m. on April 17 near the 4300 block of Riverside Drive. The rider, Guy Scott, died from his injuries.

The SUV was driven by Officer George Isabel. Because an on-duty Coral Springs officer was involved, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated. Florida Highway Patrol investigators later found probable cause for a felony vehicular homicide charge, but the Broward State Attorney’s Office filed a misdemeanor reckless driving charge instead.

The dash cam footage, obtained by NBC6, shows the impact with Scott’s body blurred. Body camera video captures officers, witnesses and first responders in the minutes that followed. In the recordings, Isabel asks whether anyone saw the rider come out, and tells a witness he was the one driving.

An arrest affidavit says investigators determined Isabel was traveling between 71 and 92 mph at various points before the crash, on a road with a 35 mph limit. Witnesses told investigators the SUV did not have its emergency lights or siren on. Investigators said Isabel was responding to the area of a vehicle police were trying to locate after its tracker became active, and that he drove there at a “high rate of speed.” Scott was wearing a helmet with a blinking red light, according to investigators.

The Coral Springs Police Department told NBC6 it is aware of the charge and that Isabel is on restrictive assignment. The case shows how police pursuits and emergency responses on residential roads can carry charges and questions for both officers and the public.

Local residents will likely watch how the charge is resolved, since the case involves a fatal crash on a Coral Springs roadway and a department response that is now under public scrutiny.
