The Humane Society of Broward County is looking for a permanent home for Mia, a 12-year-old dog with thick fur and a tongue that sticks out because she has only one tooth. The shelter said she was adopted about three years ago after appearing on Local 10 but was brought back after her owner could no longer care for her.

Shelter staff describe Mia as a happy, affectionate dog with plenty of love left to give. She enjoys belly rubs, soft treats and calm walks. She can eat dry food if it is mixed with wet food. Staff hope she finds a family to spend the holidays with and many more years ahead.

People interested in adopting Mia can visit humanebroward.com and submit a pre-adoption application. The adoption center opens daily at 11 a.m.

The shelter also is seeking homes for Tiger and Lily, a pair of brother and sister cats about 3 years old who have been at the shelter since August. The shy siblings need a quiet home where they can stay together and have time to adjust.
