A 35-foot boat ran aground on the Hillsboro Inlet jetty on Thursday, and a U.S. Coast Guard crew evacuated a person with a head injury, the Coast Guard said Saturday.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale responded after the person aboard suffered the injury. The crew brought the individual to Hillsboro Marina, where emergency medical services personnel were waiting at the pier, according to Coast Guard Southeast officials.
Authorities did not immediately release the person’s age, identity or condition. The Coast Guard did not describe what caused the boat to run aground.
The inlet, which separates Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, is a busy spot for recreational boaters and fishing vessels, so the incident is a reminder to watch channel markers and tide conditions when heading out.
