Palm Beach County’s Department of Housing & Economic Development held a commencement ceremony on October 27 at the site of One North Lake Apartments in downtown Pahokee. The event celebrated a groundbreaking that is still ahead, according to the county.

The project will bring 54 workforce rental units in a four-story multifamily building. The county said the apartments are meant for working individuals and families, with rents aimed at residents earning up to 70 percent of the Area Median Income.

The county’s housing department provided a $4.65 million workforce housing development loan for construction. It also previously awarded a $100,000 infrastructure grant for site improvements. Staff worked with the developer on planning, underwriting, approvals and financing, the county said.

Department Director Axel Miranda said the project would help residents stay in the Glades communities where they work. Residents who want information about One North Lake or other county housing programs can call 561-233-3600.
