The City of Boca Raton is collecting clean candy wrappers through November 14 as part of Unwrap the Wave, a recycling effort run with the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The city said Americans buy more than 300,000 tons of candy each Halloween, and the wrappers add to litter that can reach local beaches.
Residents can drop off wrappers at five locations: City Hall, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Sugar Sand Park Community Center, the Downtown Library and the Spanish River Library.
The city said the program is meant to help protect the coastline. Residents who want more details can find the program information on the city’s website at myboca.us.
