AeroMexico plans to return to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with nonstop 737 service to Mexico City beginning January 14, according to aviation source Ishrion Aviation. The airline has not served the airport since 2008, when it last operated there.

Fort Lauderdale has had no direct link to Mexico City for several years. Volaris moved its nonstop flights to Miami in 2019, leaving the airport without a route to the Mexican capital.

AeroMexico previously flew the route from 2003 to 2004 and again from 2007 to 2008. Its joint venture partner, Delta, announced nonstop service to Mexico City in 2012 and put tickets on sale, but the flights never started. JetBlue also connected Fort Lauderdale and Mexico City in the late 2010s before dropping the route.

For travelers in Broward and Palm Beach counties, the change would offer a nonstop option to Mexico City without driving to Miami. The report did not include ticket prices or a schedule beyond the start date.
