Margate has received a $1 million reimbursement grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, administered through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. City Manager Cale Curtis announced the award at the City Commission meeting on November 4.

The city had waited more than a year for the state payment. The money reimburses work already completed at Southeast Park, 655 Southwest 50th Avenue, according to city spokesperson Lisa Huriash.

The project included artificial turf for two soccer fields, landscaping upgrades, an overflow parking lot and new picnic facilities. Residents who use the park for games, practices and family outings will see the improvements already in place.

The reimbursement means the city will recover a significant share of its spending on the park without raising new local funds for the work, city officials said.
