UF study finds dengue-capable mosquitoes common in Indian River County yards

A University of Florida study found Aedes aegypti, the main dengue-carrying mosquito, is common in residential yards in Indian River County.

Residential yards in Indian River County may be a more common place for dengue-capable mosquitoes than many residents expect, according to a University of Florida study. Researchers with the UF/IFAS Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory in Vero Beach found Aedes aegypti, the primary dengue-transmitting mosquito, was relatively common in yards where they expected the secondary species, Aedes albopictus, to dominate.
