Residents at Juno by the Sea are worried about safety after recent king tides eroded the shoreline near their homes. The erosion left a steep drop-off closer to their property and took out their beach access, according to WPTV.
Resident Linda Waitekunas said the changes have been especially noticeable over the past week. She said people who live in the community spend a lot of time on the sand and in the water, so losing that stretch of beach affects their daily routines.
Her main concern is the drop-off. “Somebody comes out, walks just one wrong step somewhere, and then they go,” she said.
Waitekunas said multiple agencies have told her that a long-term fix would involve several jurisdictions and take time. She said residents are hoping for action sooner rather than later. WPTV’s crew visited the site and filmed the eroded shoreline and damaged access. Waitekunas said conditions were calmer during the visit, but she remains concerned about the next high tide.
The damage is part of a wider pattern of erosion WPTV has documented along northern Palm Beach County’s coastline after a stretch of rough surf and high tides.
