The City of Hollywood is asking residents to check storm drains near their homes and clear away leaves, trash and other debris that can block drainage. The city highlighted a neighborhood couple, Terry Cantrell and his wife, Lynn, who kept a local catch basin clear, including during the recent King Tides.

City officials said clogged storm drains and catch basins can contribute to street flooding and pollution in waterways. Residents are encouraged to look around their property and clear debris where it is safe to do so.

The city also promotes its Adopt a Catch Basin program for residents who want a longer-term role. Participants are asked to inspect their adopted drain monthly and before storms, and clean it as needed. Details are available through a link in the city’s Instagram profile.
