The City of Coconut Creek’s Clerk’s Office marked Florida City Government Week by staging a mock commission meeting for area high school and technical school students.

Students from Coconut Creek High School, Monarch High School, Dave Thomas Education Center and Atlantic Technical College and High School took part. They played elected officials, city administrators and staff, and they presented, debated and voted on a city initiative.

The event followed this year’s statewide theme, “Engage, Educate, and Empower.” City officials said the hands-on format was designed to show how local government works and to encourage civic engagement and community involvement among young residents.
