The City of Hollywood is warning residents and businesses to prepare for king tide flooding, with the highest water levels expected Oct. 26 through 28. Impacts could begin Thursday, Oct. 22, and elevated tides may continue through Sunday, Nov. 1.
The National Weather Service says the October 26 full moon, strong onshore winds and forecast weekend showers could push flooding above current moderate flood projections. Low-lying and coastal areas, including Hollywood Beach and properties with low or no seawalls, should expect possible flooding even on sunny days.
Recent king tides have caused street flooding along A1A and Hollywood Beach. City crews have set up temporary Tiger Dams along parts of the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, tidal gate panels in the South Lake area and permanent and auxiliary stormwater pumps.
The city advises moving vehicles to higher ground when flooding is expected, avoiding driving through flooded roads and keeping children and pets away from floodwater. Additional king tide periods are scheduled for Nov. 5 to 11, Nov. 22 to 28, Dec. 5 to 8 and Dec. 23 to 27.
