A West Palm Beach man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he stabbed and strangled his pregnant girlfriend during a domestic violence incident on Oct. 3.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the West Palm Beach Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of Lincoln Road around 4:52 p.m. after reports of a stabbing. They found the victim covered in blood and took her to St. Mary’s Medical Center as a trauma patient.
Investigators said 31-year-old D’Andre Jerome Burgess attacked the woman, who was about six months pregnant with his child. She told detectives that Burgess pulled out a knife during an argument outside a residence and threatened that they would both die. Police said she tried to grab the knife, was stabbed and fell to the ground while trying to protect her unborn child. Family members tried to step in but could not stop the attack.
Police allege Burgess followed the woman into the home, forced her onto a couch and strangled her with both hands. She told investigators she could not speak and had trouble breathing. She suffered lacerations and scrapes to her neck, hand, knee and breast, according to police.
Burgess was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. He is being held without bond on charges including attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a pregnant victim and domestic battery by strangulation.
