Publix shoppers in Kendall and West Palm Beach have lost two neighborhood grocery stores this year as the chain prepares replacements at both sites. A state-level list of 2026 closures includes the locations at 8250 Mills Dr. in Kendall and 828 Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach. Publix plans to return to each address, but neither replacement has a confirmed opening date.

The Publix at the Palms at Town & Country closed January 17, ending more than 40 years at the shopping center, according to the Miami Herald. The store opened in 1985. Employees told the Herald they were reassigned to nearby locations, and the center’s directory lists Publix as “Under Construction.”

Kendall has seen this before. The Briar Bay Publix near The Falls closed in 2022, and its replacement opened in February 2025 with two stories and a parking garage. Publix has not announced a design or schedule for Town & Country.

In West Palm Beach, the Southdale Shopping Center store was scheduled to close at 7 p.m. on September 26 for a rebuild, spokeswoman Lindsey Willis told WFLX. Workers will move to nearby stores during construction, and the company has not released a reopening timeline.

For now, Publix points West Palm Beach customers to Belmart Plaza at 500 Belvedere Rd., about 1.3 miles away. Displaced Kendall shoppers can use the Kendall Mall store at 9041 Southwest 107th Ave. Both are listed as open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., though pharmacy hours differ.
