Palm Beach County commissioners voted unanimously to open a competitive bidding process for major changes at North County Airport, also known as F45, rather than move forward with a single proposal.

The plan came from Jet Greene LLC, owned by developer Jeff Greene. It would buy 131 acres of county-owned land near the airport, build a second private aviation facility with hangars, fueling and lounges, and help pay for future airport improvements. Commissioner Maria Marino said the company’s offer “is a starting point.”

Several aviation companies have already signaled interest. Stephen Abrams, speaking for Sky Harbour through Ellison Partners, said the company did not want to be left out. LuftCar, which focuses on infrastructure for electric aircraft that take off and land vertically, said the airport’s smaller size makes it a good site for testing that technology.

Airport officials said the work is aimed at long-term planning, not commercial airline service. Supporters argue more private aviation capacity could ease pressure on Trump International Airport.

Some nearby residents are less focused on the planes. Roberta Sorensen, who lives under part of the flight path, said traffic on local roads is her main concern and asked that neighbors be consulted.

Commissioners directed staff to develop a solicitation that would let multiple developers and aviation firms submit proposals for the airport’s future.
