The Extraordinary Kids Foundation can stay in Mangonia Park after the town council voted 3-2 to allow the nonprofit to continue its community outreach program.

Every Saturday, the group hands out groceries, hot meals, clothing and hygiene supplies, and it offers hot showers to people who need them.

The town issued the foundation a violation in June. It gave the group a choice: shut down or attend a code enforcement hearing. In July, founder and CEO Tiffany Streez said the organization planned to keep operating and would bring in attorneys.

The town questioned whether the services broke local zoning rules and raised concerns that the site was operating like a homeless shelter. The foundation said no one stays overnight.

The council also approved the foundation’s use of a church on Sundays for three hours, with attendance capped at 20 people. Saturday services will continue for the families who rely on them.
