Newly released body camera and drone footage shows marine officers rescuing a dolphin that was stuck in Biscayne Bay. Neighbors saw the animal in distress and called for help, and North Bay Village Police and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit deputies were on the water within minutes.

The dolphin appeared to be caught in what was believed to be a net. Officers can be heard on the footage discussing the rope and trying to steer the animal away from it before they jumped into the water to reach it.

Resident Ahmed Raul Perez Prieto, founder of ARPP Air Studio 26, said he noticed the dolphin swimming abnormally from his apartment window. He flew a drone for a closer look and saw something attached to its tail. Perez said the animal was sinking because the weight holding it down was too heavy, and he believes it would have died without help. He also used the drone to guide authorities to the animal.

After a few moments, officers freed the dolphin. Drone video shows it swimming away while the officers cheered. North Bay Village officers said the dolphin appeared uninjured.
