A mother has identified her son, Nathan Bentley, 18, as the young man shot and killed late Friday night outside a McDonald’s in northwest Miami-Dade. Nohely Bogert said her son was a student at Miami Dade College and a recent graduate of Hallandale High School.

Bogert said she had been watching a football game with Bentley at a field across the street before the shooting. She described him as a bright light in the community who was loved by many. Known as “G Baby,” he enjoyed rapping and was a devoted older brother to a 11-month-old sister and a 15-year-old brother, she said.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives spent about eight hours at the scene collecting evidence, including a cellphone a bystander pointed out to investigators. Bogert said the suspect remains on the run.

Authorities have not released an official account of what led to the shooting or a possible motive. Bentley’s car stayed at the scene until it was driven off the property.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
