Family, friends and fellow deputies gathered Saturday at the Kendall District Station for an emotional ceremony marking one year since Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Deputy Devin Jaramillo was killed in the line of duty.

The event included a tribute from the color guard and remarks from Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. Jaramillo was shot and killed on Nov. 7, 2025, while responding to a call for service.

Cordero-Stutz said the turnout showed how many people Jaramillo touched. “We’re still hurting, still something that affects us every single day,” she said.

Colleagues described him as a friend with a contagious smile and a kind spirit. Sgt. Armando Lamadriz, who worked alongside him, urged people to keep his memory alive.

“Everyone is hurting in different ways,” Lamadriz said. “We’ve just got to continue living in his name.”

A permanent memorial unveiled in March at the Kendall District Station honors Jaramillo’s service and sacrifice. It gives family, friends and deputies a place to remember the young deputy.
