A 33-year-old man has been arrested on a first-degree murder charge in the August shooting death of a woman found in a Vero Beach roadway, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said.
Matthew Allen Waggle was arrested Oct. 5 on an active warrant and is being held without bond. The warrant accuses him of killing Dawn Marie Kriskewic on Aug. 16. A judge signed the warrant Aug. 19.
Deputies were called to the 500 block of 1st Street after 911 callers reported a woman lying in the road. They found Kriskewic with injuries that appeared to be gunshot wounds and started CPR. She was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators said Waggle was Kriskewic’s former boyfriend. A coworker told detectives she had voiced concerns about him before her death and that he had threatened consequences if she called police when he came to pick up his belongings.
Detectives said surveillance video placed a person they identified as Waggle near the scene around the time of the shooting. Investigators also recovered a rolling suitcase with men’s clothing and a tactical vest near the scene. A Ruger pistol was found on a neighboring property, along with a note saying another person had allowed Waggle to use the gun for firearm qualifications, according to the affidavit.
Waggle was taken into custody at the sheriff’s office. The case is a reminder of how quickly a domestic dispute can turn deadly, and the arrest comes nearly two months after the killing.
