LGBTQIA+ community leaders are holding a “Souls to the Polls” rally in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Oct. 31, before participants go together to cast early ballots.

The event starts at 9:45 a.m. at 1033 NW Sixth St., followed by a 10:15 a.m. procession to the African American Research Library and Cultural Center at 2650 Sistrunk Blvd. Participants will board a chartered bus to the library, and people who prefer to drive can join the procession in their own vehicles, organizers said.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is among the scheduled participants, according to organizers. The Ujima Men’s Collective Social Justice Initiative is running the event with support from The Our Fund Foundation and the John Lewis Get Out and Vote Bus.

Organizers said the goal is to bring Black LGBTQIA+ residents, faith leaders and allies to the polls during the final weekend of early voting before Tuesday’s General Election. Clergy and community leaders from across Broward County are also scheduled to speak.

Broward’s 30 early voting sites are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 1. Registered Broward voters can use any site in the county. Voters should bring a current, valid photo ID and proof of signature. On Election Day, voters must go to their assigned precinct.
