Coral Springs High School football won its first game of the season in the final Mayor’s Cup matchup of the year, beating J.P. Taravella 6-0 on Friday night. The Colts improved to 1-9.
Brayden Mark scored the only touchdown of the game in the second half. The Colts also honored their seniors on Senior Night, recognizing 10 players by name.
Taravella played its second game of the week. The Trojans had led 22-6 over Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Monday but gave up the final 29 points and lost 35-22. Taravella finished its season 1-8, with its only win coming against Northeast High School. The Trojans also recognized their own seniors at halftime.
For Coral Springs families, the result gives the Colts a late-season lift after a difficult fall. The Mayor’s Cup rivalry series, which pits Broward and Palm Beach county schools against each other, closes with this game for both teams.
