Homebuilder Lennar is set to buy the Boynton Beach Mall, a company spokesperson confirmed to WPTV. The purchase is expected to close in “early” 2027.

Lennar said it wants to develop “a vibrant mixed-use community” on the 91-acre property. The company said the project could help ease Palm Beach County’s severe housing shortage.

In a statement, the company described plans for single-family attached homes, along with retail, commercial space, open space and civic uses. Lennar said it wants to create a walkable, connected environment. It also said planning is in the early stages and that it looks forward to feedback from stakeholders.

The announcement comes days after mall tenants received lease termination notices telling them to leave the building by mid-January. The mall opened more than 40 years ago, and questions about its future have been building since then.

For Boynton Beach residents, the sale would mark a major change for a large property that has long been a fixture of the area.
