The New Jewelry Exchange in Tamarac held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting on the morning of October 17 at its new home in the University Commons Plaza, 6730 North University Drive. Members of the Tamarac commission and the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce took part.

Six businesses now operate from the complex. The group moved after changes to its previous building. Jimmy Beckford, owner of Jewelry Masters and Watch Repair, led the jewelers who relocated. He said the new site is a better location and should bring more foot traffic.

Steven Feldman, owner of Marty and Son’s Jewelry, is one of the tenants. He took over the business from his late father, Martin, and works with Stacia Day, who has many years of experience in the trade. Feldman said he enjoys the creative side of the work. Most owners have decades in the industry, and some are second-generation owners.

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Dr. Kicia Daniel attended and encouraged residents to visit for purchases and repairs. Joe Farsijani, owner of Pyramid Jewelry, said the move will open new opportunities for his shop.

The Jewelry Exchange is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
