Early voting for the general election starts Monday across South Florida, and voters will face several high-profile races and local measures. Early voting in Miami-Dade and Broward counties runs from Oct. 19 through Nov. 1. Monroe County’s early voting period ends Oct. 31.

Vote.org tracking data shows more interest in Florida’s elections than in the 2025 midterm, according to the group’s CEO, Andrea Hailey. She said registration checks and new sign-ups on the site have jumped.

The governor’s race pits Republican Byron Donalds against Democrat David Jolly, who is seeking to flip the seat for the first time in more than 30 years. A second statewide contest decides who will finish the U.S. Senate term held by Marco Rubio before he became Secretary of State. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Republican Ashley Moody to the seat, and Democrat Angie Nixon is running against her.

In South Florida congressional races, U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz faces former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer in the 25th District. In the 27th District, U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar is running against Democrat Elliot Rodriguez. Both Salazar and Rodriguez previously worked as South Florida news anchors.

Local measures include Amendment 3, a property tax proposal that would raise the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and to $250,000 in 2028, with later inflation adjustments. Miami-Dade and Broward voters will also weigh school funding renewals for teacher pay, student safety and mental health. In Miami, City of Miami Referendum 3 asks voters to approve a lease of 30 acres of Virginia Key to a new developer for a marina. Supporters say it would bring jobs and green space, while opponents worry about environmental harm.
