A Learjet 60 carrying nine people crashed near homes in the Cresthaven area of Palm Beach County just before 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA said the jet had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to the Bahamas. The agency did not say what may have caused the crash, and details about the cause had not yet been released.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed all northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail near Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. The closure was set to remain in place until further notice, the agency said, so drivers in the area should expect delays and plan alternate routes.

CBS News Miami said it would post updates as more information becomes available.
