Miami Hurricanes star Malachi Toney worked with engineers from the University of Miami to build a homemade glider for Red Bull Flugtag Miami, the team’s event at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami.

Toney described the process in a WSVN interview. He said the team relied on basic materials, and that working with simple tools is part of the appeal of Flugtag.

The build took the team about six weeks, or a month and a half, to complete.

The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bayfront Park, where the homemade aircraft are expected to launch off a ramp. Spectators can watch the teams compete for the crowd’s attention as well as distance.
