Families, friends and pets took part in Halloween across South Florida, according to WSVN 7News. Kids trick-or-treated on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, and superhero families collected candy in Coconut Grove before dusk.

The biggest crowd gathered in Wynwood, where the party was just getting started as the sun went down. Attendees dressed as Mario, a Killer Klowns from Outer Space character and a Resident Evil figure, among others. A costume contest was set for later in the evening.

Some streets in the neighborhood were partially closed, and officers were posted on corners. Miami Police Chief Edwin Lopez was seen on the streets and said he expected thousands of people downtown. He said hundreds of officers were assigned to posts in the community, along with undercover personnel.

Lopez asked residents to enjoy the night responsibly and to report anything suspicious to authorities.
