American Airlines will resume flights to Haiti on Sunday morning with a special flight from Miami International Airport. The trip to Cap-Haïtien is scheduled to depart at 10 a.m. with an all-Haitian crew.
The flight marks the first time in two years that a major U.S. airline has been allowed to fly to the country, according to the report. Flights into and out of Port-au-Prince remain banned.
Miami-Dade County leaders and airport officials plan to mark the return to Cap-Haïtien with a ceremony at the airport before the flight takes off.
For South Florida residents with family in northern Haiti, the restored nonstop service offers a new way to travel from Miami. The report did not say when regular service would begin or how often flights would run.
