If you have ever wanted a hobby that ends with something you can wear, South Florida Sewing Studio in Fort Lauderdale may be worth a visit. The studio, at 2629 North Federal Highway, teaches sewing, crochet and knitting, and students can make everything from pants and tote bags to bikinis.
WSVN’s Deco Drive segment followed reporter Alex Miranda as she tried a make-your-own speedo class. Instructors Caity Burdash and Giulia Mori Kattenburg guided students through cutting and stitching at the sewing machines.
Prices start at $75 for sewing machine basics. The studio’s three-week, three-class course costs up to $325, according to Mori Kattenburg.
Mori Kattenburg said the classes suit both beginners who have never threaded a needle and experienced sewers looking to advance. She described a community atmosphere where students can make new friends or bring someone along.
For details on schedules and enrollment, the studio’s website is the best place to check.
