Floodwater has cut off a neighborhood near Interstate 75 and Interstate 595 in Davie, forcing residents to park on high ground and walk home. The water flooded the area Tuesday and again Wednesday, according to resident Robert Hughson, who said he could not get to work Tuesday morning because the water reached his property line.

Hughson, his wife and their children have been stuck at home for two days. He said the water is more than a foot deep in some places, and he will not drive through it because it could ruin his car. He described several cars floating in the street.

Neighbors said drivers have been running into flooded roads, including dips between Griffin and Stirling roads in Southwest Ranches. Doyle Stevenson said one woman was stuck in a ditch with water up to her car door. Another driver said he made a U-turn at a “no U-turn” sign because the water was too deep.

Hughson said he remains hopeful the standing water will drain soon. Neighbors are being urged to leave cars on dry ground and walk rather than risk driving through the flooded streets.
