A new Florida International University poll finds a clear majority of Cuban Americans in South Florida plan to vote for Republicans in the upcoming midterm election, even though most of them disapprove of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
According to the poll, 76% of Cuban Americans in South Florida disapprove of the administration’s increased deportations of Cubans with no criminal record during the first two years of President Trump’s second term. Still, 68% said they intend to support the GOP in the midterms. FIU said that figure matches the high recorded in a 2024 poll.
In the U.S. Senate race, 51% of Cuban American respondents backed Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, while 26% supported Democrat Angie Nixon. FIU said 44% of the full sample remained undecided in that contest.
The gap was wider in the governor’s race. Sixty percent of Cuban Americans sided with Republican Rep. Byron Donalds, and 24% supported Democrat David Jolly.
Early voting is underway in Miami-Dade and Broward counties through Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Election Day is Nov. 3.
