Dozens of Doral residents packed a town hall on Wednesday to raise concerns about traffic gridlock when the city hosts a G20 summit in December at Trump National Doral.

Many questions focused on how people will get around their neighborhoods while world leaders meet at the resort. One resident asked whether traffic from 41st Street would be pushed onto 33rd Street. Others asked whether the city could issue badges or IDs to make it easier to enter their communities, and whether police would help direct traffic.

Secret Service representative Sonny Berrios said all of the security checkpoints will be vehicle inspections, so residents will not be asked to get out of their cars. Mayor Christi Fraga, Secret Service officials and local police answered questions about the event.

The summit is scheduled for Dec. 14 and 15 and is expected to close several streets. Multiple schools have already said they will hold classes virtually on those days.

Business owners said restricted access could cut sales during the holiday shopping season. Fraga said the city is working with visiting delegations to promote local businesses.

Wednesday’s meeting was the first of two town halls. City leaders also plan a separate meeting for residents of Doral Estates, the neighborhood next to the resort where many attendees live.
