A 26-year-old man was arrested after Miami-Dade deputies say he spat on an emergency room nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital West, following a disturbance at Miami International Airport on Sunday.

Lucas J. Cote was found seated at the bar of a Chili’s restaurant near Gate D14, according to an arrest report. A deputy had responded to reports of a violent man at the American Airlines rebooking center. Deputies said Cote appeared highly intoxicated and refused commands to stand. He was taken into custody with help from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

Deputies said Cote was disoriented and yelled obscenities while being escorted to a golf cart. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation under the Marchman Act. Staff tried to sedate him while an emergency room nurse helped hold him down, and deputies said Cote spat on the nurse during that struggle.

After he was sedated and released, Cote was arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faces charges of battery on an emergency medical care provider, disorderly intoxication and disorderly conduct. A judge found probable cause and set his bond at $2,800.
