Doral officials outlined how the city plans to handle the 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held December 14 and 15 in Doral. Mayor Christi Fraga made the announcement at a press conference Wednesday at the Doral Government Center, joined by police, school and federal officials and Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
Some security activity and traffic impacts could begin as early as December 10. Officials expect significant delays near the venue, particularly along NW 87th Avenue and NW 36th Street, with road closures, detours and security checkpoints. Doral Central Park will be closed to the public December 11 through 16, and recreation programs will move to other city parks.
The city is encouraging businesses in affected areas to let employees work remotely during the summit. A downloadable letter for workers to share with employers is posted at cityofdoral.com/g20. Residents are asked to avoid the affected areas and allow extra time for necessary trips.
Doral Police Chief Matthew Castillo said officers have trained in civil disturbance response, traffic control and tabletop exercises with partner agencies. The department also unveiled a new Mobile Command Center, which will be stationed near the venue during the summit and later used for other emergencies and major events.
Miami-Dade Public Schools has approved virtual instruction on December 14 and 15 for seven Doral-area public schools, according to a district memo issued October 26. Several charter and private schools will also go virtual, and Divine Savior Academy will cancel classes. Families at other schools should check with their campuses.
A Secret Service official said no summit-related threats have been identified so far. The city will hold town halls on November 4 at Doral Central Park from 6 to 8 p.m. and on November 14 at Doral Legacy Park from 10 a.m. to noon. Residents can sign up for Doral Alerts for traffic and safety notices.
