A Coral Springs woman who worked as an aide for a senior client for nearly five years was arrested Nov. 4 on charges of exploiting an elderly person, first-degree grand theft and identity theft, according to the Coral Springs Police Department. Maureen Andrea Wade, 60, is accused of taking $217,343.89 through 354 cash withdrawals.
The case started in March 2026, when the victim’s niece and her husband reviewed the woman’s finances after she said she was running low on money. They found repeated deposits into her Bank of America account, followed by cash withdrawals. Investigators said the records show most of the withdrawals were made at Bank of America ATMs, with others at Publix, Walgreens and a food and beverage store in Margate.
Police also reviewed 41 surveillance videos. Investigators said the woman in the footage resembled Wade, and a vehicle registered to Wade appeared during drive-through ATM transactions.
The victim told investigators she had trusted Wade like family. She said her vision had declined about three years earlier, and that Wade read her bank statements to her. She said she did not know she had a Bank of America debit card and never authorized Wade to take money for herself.
Wade told relatives she made the transactions at the victim’s direction, but she would not say where the money went. She kept working until late April, when relatives confronted her. Her attorney later said she would not give a statement. Wade was arrested near the 6000 block of Wiles Road and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
Charges are allegations at this stage.
