The Boca Raton Historical Society inducted four new honorees into its Walk of Recognition on Wednesday evening at The Addison’s 1926 special events venue. The event marked the 30th anniversary of the walk, which has honored local figures since 1997 with stars laid under the statue of Addison Mizner on Royal Palm Place.
The honorees are Marie Hester, Jay and Marilyn Weinberg, and John W. Temple. Hester returned to Boca Raton after retiring from Washington, D.C., and has been active in the Pearl City historic district, the city’s Historic Preservation Board and DISC, the Developing Interracial Social Change group. Marilyn Weinberg accepted the honor for her husband, Jay, citing the couple’s support for education, Holocaust remembrance, health care and the arts, including a million-dollar gift to Florida Atlantic University. Temple, a former Arvida president, helped shape the city’s business and residential growth in the 1980s. He has written three books on that history.
Jade Jarvis, a WPBF 25 News weekend anchor, emceed the event. The James & Marta Batmasian Family Foundation was the presenting sponsor, and founder Marta Batmasian was recognized during the program. Former honorees were applauded before guests gathered for a reception on the veranda under the banyan tree.
